Dyson's pitch for the Purifier Cool TP07 is straightforward: replace both your fan and your air purifier with a single device. After four months of using it across seasons as a spring and summer fan, a year-round purifier, and a winter air circulator, we can report on whether the dual-purpose design compromises either function.
Design & Build
The TP07 is unmistakably Dyson. The bladeless oval loop sits atop a cylindrical base, standing about 41 inches tall with a narrow 8.7-inch footprint. The silver and white colorway is clean and modern. Love or hate the aesthetic, it is a conversation piece that communicates quality at a glance.
Build quality is excellent. The base houses the motor and filtration system and is constructed from dense, well-finished plastic with no creaking or rattling. The amplifier loop is rigid and precisely assembled. The whole unit weighs 10.7 pounds and tilts on its base for directional airflow adjustment.
The included remote is a small, curved magnetic unit that clips to the top of the loop for storage. It controls power, fan speed (1-10), oscillation (up to 350 degrees), airflow mode (purifier only or fan+purifier), and sleep timer. The remote is responsive but small enough to lose in couch cushions regularly.
Dyson Link App & Sensors
The TP07's sensor array and app experience are comprehensive:
- PM2.5 and PM10 particle monitoring with real-time graphs
- VOC and NO2 gas detection displayed as air quality index
- Temperature and humidity readings
- Historical air quality data with day, week, and month views
- Scheduling with different speeds for different times
- Filter life tracking with replacement ordering built into the app
The Dyson Link app is polished and informative. The real-time air quality graph updates every second, and the historical data helps identify patterns like overnight air quality dips from closed-window sleeping or afternoon spikes from cooking. The NO2 sensor is uncommon at this price and useful for homes near busy roads.
Auto mode uses these sensors to adjust fan speed dynamically. In our testing, it responded to cooking events in under 15 seconds, which is among the fastest we have measured.
Air Cleaning Performance
The TP07 uses a sealed HEPA+carbon filter unit that wraps 360 degrees around the base interior. The HEPA layer captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, while the activated carbon layer targets gases and odors. Dyson's fully sealed system prevents air from bypassing the filter.
| Metric | Result | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| PM2.5 Reduction (30 min) | 94% | Very Good |
| VOC Reduction (60 min) | 75% | Good |
| Pollen Simulation | 98% | Excellent |
| CADR (Estimated) | 185 | Average |
Dyson does not publish official CADR numbers, which is a persistent frustration. Based on our particle reduction testing, we estimate the effective CADR around 185, which places it in the mid-range. The TP07 handles rooms up to about 300 sq. ft. effectively for purification. As a fan, the Air Multiplier technology projects airflow across larger rooms, but the purification effect diminishes in bigger spaces.
The 350-degree oscillation is genuinely useful for air circulation. It distributes purified air more evenly than fixed-direction purifiers, partially compensating for the moderate CADR.
Fan Performance
As a fan, the TP07 performs well but differently from a traditional blade fan. The Air Multiplier creates a smooth, laminar airflow without the choppy sensation of spinning blades. On speed 10, it moves enough air to cool you from about 8 feet away. It will not replace a high-velocity floor fan for extreme heat, but for moderate cooling and air circulation it is excellent.
Breeze mode varies the fan speed randomly to simulate natural wind patterns. It sounds like a gimmick but is genuinely pleasant for extended use.
Noise Levels
| Speed | Measured dB | Subjective |
|---|---|---|
| Speed 1 | 30 dB | Very quiet |
| Speed 3 | 37 dB | Soft airflow |
| Speed 5 | 44 dB | Moderate |
| Speed 7 | 52 dB | Noticeable |
| Speed 10 | 62 dB | Loud fan |
Night mode automatically caps the fan at speed 4 and dims the display. At speeds 1-4, the TP07 is quiet enough for bedroom use. Higher speeds produce the characteristic Dyson airflow sound, which is smoother than blade fans but still present.
Running Costs
- Energy: ~$2-5/month
- Combined HEPA+carbon filter: ~$70 every 12 months
- Annual filter cost: ~$70/year
Filter costs are reasonable given the combined HEPA+carbon design. The single sealed filter unit makes replacement simple: twist out the old one, twist in the new one. The app alerts you when replacement is needed based on actual usage hours.
Pros and Cons
What We Like
- +Purifier + bladeless fan combo
- +Sealed HEPA H13 filtration system
- +Dyson Link app with comprehensive air quality data
- +Oscillation projects purified air across room
- +Beautiful design doubles as home decor
Could Be Better
- −Premium price for moderate CADR
- −Not effective as primary cooling in hot climates
- −Loud on high fan speeds
- −Expensive proprietary filters
Dyson TP07 vs. Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet
Dyson's dual-purpose vs. dedicated purifier:
Choose the TP07 if you want a fan and purifier in one unit for a bedroom or medium room, and you value the space savings and cooling function. Choose the Big+Quiet if purification is your primary goal and you need to cover a large room with higher CADR and quieter operation at equivalent cleaning power.
The Verdict
The Dyson Purifier Cool TP07 succeeds at being two things at once, with caveats. As an air purifier, it delivers reliable HEPA+carbon filtration with an exceptional sensor array and app experience, but its CADR lags behind similarly priced dedicated purifiers. As a fan, it provides smooth, pleasant airflow with 350-degree oscillation that traditional fans cannot match.
The value proposition depends on whether you would otherwise buy both a fan and a purifier. If yes, the TP07 at $569.99 potentially saves money and counter space. If you only need purification, a Coway or Winix will clean more air for less money. But if you want the full Dyson experience with dual functionality, the TP07 delivers it with characteristic polish.
